Syndicate Disputes
Syndicate disputes are fortunately quite rare, but when they arise they can cause a lot of stress and unease and potentially break up the lottery syndicate altogether. This article reveals several ways to resolve syndicate disputes and explains how many can be avoided in the first place.
Resolving a syndicate dispute is not always easy, but it can be done. The following tips will improve your chances of doing so quickly and effectively wherever possible:
Keep Calm – Although it is easy to get emotional where disputes about money are concerned, keeping calm is the best way to get things sorted out quickly. Take a few deep breaths and try not to let the dispute turn into a personal argument.
Review The Agreement – Hopefully your lottery syndicate made an original agreement in writing. If so, all members should sit down together to review that agreement and see how it relates to the current syndicate dispute. Sometimes this is all it takes for any disagreements to be cleared up.
Think About Solutions – Syndicate disputes are all about problems, but you need to focus on solutions if you want to resolve them. Ask members how they would like the problems to be solved to their satisfaction.
Revise The Agreement – If the majority of members want to revise the agreement, it should be up to the lottery syndicate leader to decide whether or not to do this. If they don’t want to, the other members should resign from the syndicate and perhaps form their own. If the leader is willing to revise the agreement, they should start from scratch as if setting up a brand new syndicate.
A Last Resort – If a syndicate dispute cannot be resolved by following the previous steps, the last resort is to take legal action. This is usually only done where a large amount of money is involved and where the agreement between syndicate members was verbal rather than written, but verbal agreements are binding in many cases, so you shouldn’t be afraid of seeking legal counsel if you think you have just cause.
As all of the above information hints, a written syndicate agreement is something that can help you to avoid many disputes, so if you are currently in a syndicate which does not have an agreement, you should withdraw your participation or draw up an agreement as soon as possible. It might sound a tad formal, especially if you are playing the lottery with close friends, but a big win can unfortunately make such formality very necessary.
