Ayrshire Builder to Lay Foundations for a Better Life after Scratchcard Success
A builder from Ayrshire has vowed to lay the foundations for a better life after winning £300,000 on a National Lottery scratchcard. David Abercrombie plans to invest in a positive future for his family after being told by his girlfriend to “be wise” with his newfound wealth.
The 26-year-old began his day by picking up his weekly £3 scratchcard from a store on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow, shortly before he headed off to work. Once he made it on-site, David frantically revealed the symbols on his Lucky Lines Yellow Scratchcard only to discover that he had hit the jackpot: “I said to my workmate ‘I’ve won the top prize’. He didn’t believe me at first and took it off me to see for himself. Everyone was cheering when they realised I’d won,” the brickie told reporters upon collecting his prize.
The Irvine resident quickly made his way back to the shop in order to confirm the victory. David was advised to call the National Lottery line due to the size of the sum he had won. However, the Scotsman’s joy soon turned to despair: “The worst thing was it was only 7.30am and I had to wait until 9am for the claim line to open.” What followed was the longest hour and a half of David’s life as his excitement started to spill over: “The minute the clock hit 9 I was straight on the phone. I can’t tell you how I felt waiting for that hour and a half.”
The delighted winner, who celebrated his victory with champagne and king prawns in Troon, now plans to treat his family to the life they have always dreamed about: “We will be buying a bigger house so my two little girls will get bedrooms of their own – they’ve already started picking out the décor,” he smiled. Naturally, David is also planning on picking himself up a brand new motor, with a Mercedes top of his wish list.
“I have always said things like this don’t happen to people like me but I was obviously in the right place at the right time,” said the family man, as he found himself in a thoughtful state following his success. However, this certainly won’t stop David from scratching his weekly itch, with the bricklayer eager to continue playing in the hope that the lightning bolt of good fortune strikes twice.
