EuroMillions Superdraw On 20th November Will Set New Record
Updated: Tuesday 20th October 2020
The next EuroMillions Superdraw will take place on Friday 20th November and will offer a jackpot worth €130 million (approximately £115 million). The special event will be a record-setting draw in more ways than one.
Fourth Superdraw of 2020
November’s Superdraw will be extra special because it will make it the first time that four of them have taken place in the same calendar year. There were three Superdraws in 2018 and 2019, and before that there have been between one and three held each year.
The increased frequency of Superdraws comes after EuroMillions underwent changes in February 2020. The allocation of prize money was updated, which now means that on average the jackpot reaches €100 million at a faster rate and more money goes into the Reserve Fund, which is what is used to pay for special events such as Superdraws.
The addition of a fourth Superdraw paves the way for 2020 to be a record-breaking year as far as jackpot payouts go, even with the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Through 2020 to date, players across all nine participating countries have won jackpots totalling £1.029 billion; should next month’s Superdraw jackpot be won on the night, that will take the total to £1.146 billion. Currently, the record year for EuroMillions top prize payouts is 2013, during which £1.161 billion was won, so all it will take to break that record this year is another jackpot win in December.
So how much jackpot prize money is usually won in December? The average since EuroMillions began is £34 million, but in 2019 two jackpots totalling £82 million were won. In 2017, jackpot winners took home an incredible £154 million. However, there were no December winners in 2018 (the jackpot fell on 1st January 2019), but should that be avoided again, all these numbers point to a record year.
