EuroMillions To Hold 100 Millionaires Event on 21st January
Updated: Wednesday 29th December 2021
There will be 100 more chances to become a millionaire in the EuroMillions draw on Friday 21st January, when a rare European Millionaire Maker raffle will take place.
A European Millionaire Maker raffle is a Europe-wide event which essentially works the same as the UK Millionaire Maker, except that all nine participating countries are involved and there are a lot more prizes up for grabs.
The Millionaire Maker is usually a UK-only game, as all the different national lotteries are allowed to run their own supplementary draws, raffles and competitions. Everyone receives a random code on their ticket and one winning code is selected at random.
There will still be one winning UK Millionaire Maker code on 21st January, but there will also be a further 100 winning European raffle codes drawn from all those that are generated across the continent.
Your UK Millionaire Maker code will count for both draws, so you could even end up winning £2 million if the same code is selected in both!
How Many UK Winners Will There Be?
There will not be a set number of winners for each country. All 100 will be drawn at random, so some nations may be luckier than others. But your odds of winning are the same regardless of where you play.
The starting letter of the raffle code shows where the ticket has been purchased. In the UK, every code begins with H, J, M, T, V, X or Z, while there are different starting letters in other countries. In Ireland, for example, the code always begins with the letter I.
There have only been two other European Millionaire Maker draws in EuroMillions history, one in October 2016 and one in February 2018. Each time there were 25 winning codes, and so far the UK has had eight winners out of a total of 50. With 100 prizes on offer in January, the UK could be celebrating a lot more than that.
The prize for a European Millionaire Maker is €1 million for the majority of the participating countries, but in the UK it is a £1 million sum. Whatever €1 million converts to in pounds on the day of the draw, the National Lottery tops up all the winning amounts from its own funds so that every lucky ticket holder becomes a millionaire.
All 100 prizes are guaranteed to be won. Keep an eye on the EuroMillions Results page to see a list of all the winning codes after the draw takes place.
