EuroMillions v Lotto: Choosing Your Game As Jackpots Grow

Updated: Thursday 18th January 2018

EuroMillions and Lotto are both waiting for their first jackpot winners of the year, creating an exciting weekend for UK players as they go in search of colossal prizes. But how do the two games compare and which option is right for you?

Jackpot

The EuroMillions jackpot, fuelled by ticket sales from nine participating countries, is generally larger than the top prize offered by Lotto. The EuroMillions jackpot for Friday night stands at a mighty £66 million, having not been won since an Irish family pocketed £34.5 million (€38.9 million) on Friday 29th December. The Lotto jackpot is lower at £17.1 million, but this is still one of the largest awards offered on the game in the past 12 months and many fans will not want to miss out.

Odds

The jackpot might be lower for Lotto, but the odds of winning it are better at 1 in 45,057,474. The chances of winning any prize on Lotto are also better than many other big lottery games at 1 in 9.3. The odds of winning a EuroMillions prize are 1 in 13, while the chances of landing the jackpot are 1 in 139,838,160. However, this month you can also give yourself an extra chance to win on EuroMillions by using the promo banner at the top of the page. Just choose your numbers at Jackpot.com and enter the promo code FREELINE, and you will receive a free line.

Ways To Win

There are 13 prize tiers in EuroMillions, so you can pick up cash awards for matching just one main number and two Lucky Stars, or by matching just two main numbers. Lotto has six prize categories, including a free Lotto Lucky Dip for matching two main numbers.

Raffle Prizes

EuroMillions and Lotto players are both automatically entered into another raffle-style draw for the chance to win more great prizes. Both games work the same way, with a unique code generated on players’ tickets at the point of sale. Winners are then selected at random on the night of the main draw. For EuroMillions, the associated game is the Millionaire Maker, where two codes worth £1 million are randomly selected in each draw. The Lotto Raffle offers just one prize of £1 million in each draw, but also 20 prizes of £20,000.

Double Up?

If you’re still not sure which game to play this weekend, you could take the chance to double up and enjoy both as the jackpots are so high. You can choose your numbers online for EuroMillions or join a Lotto syndicate, and it could just be that you grab a multimillion-pound jackpot by the weekend.
