ITV to Broadcast Lotto Results from Saturday 14th April 2018
Updated: Friday 13th April 2018
Lotto fans will have a new way to find out the latest Saturday results from now on after it was announced that ITV will broadcast the winning numbers for the first time. The move is part of Camelot’s drive to make the National Lottery ‘far more relevant and visible’.
Switch from BBC
The main Saturday night Lotto draw was screened on BBC One from its launch in 1994 to January 2017, but then transitioned to BBC iPlayer following a decline in viewing figures. TV scheduling had sometimes meant that draws did not take place until 10pm or even later, and the idea was that Lotto players would still be able to watch the draws online at a convenient time.
ITV will now take over from Saturday 14th April, delivering the results in a new bite-sized mini-show, lasting approximately 90 seconds. The first slot will be at about 8.15pm in the first advert break of Britain’s Got Talent, and will be hosted by Stephen Mulhern.
Mulhern has described himself as feeling ‘privileged’ to play a part in such an ‘iconic institution’ as the National Lottery and is looking forward to being able to show how the money raised by players has made a difference to communities across the UK.
Popular Primetime Shows
Camelot bosses have also expressed their delight at the news, and they hope the switch will re-engage the public following a drop in ticket sales over the past couple of years. Hayley Stringfellow, head of brand marketing, said: "One of the outcomes of our recent strategic review was to make The National Lottery and its purpose far more relevant and visible – so what better way to do this than by partnering with ITV to deliver the results during some of the most popular primetime shows.”
As well as revealing the latest winning Lotto numbers, it has also been announced that there will be ‘some big surprises along the way’. The first show is set to have an exciting update on how members of the public can get involved and have another opportunity to win.
Why You Should Play Lotto
All National Lottery games help to raise money for worthy projects, with 28p from every £1 spent on tickets going to the Good Causes Fund. Lotto continues to offer multimillion-pound jackpots every Saturday and Wednesday night, and ITV’s new results show is sure to be eagerly awaited by fans of the game.
To take part in Lotto and possibly win one of the fantastic prizes up for grabs in the next draw, you can either visit an authorised retailer anywhere in the UK or get involved online. Good luck!
