Largest EuroMillions Jackpot of All Time Goes To UK Winner
Updated: Wednesday 20th July 2022
The record for the biggest UK lottery win of all time has been broken for the second time this year, after a single ticket matched all the numbers in the latest EuroMillions draw. The jackpot was worth €230 million (£195 million).
The lucky player matched the numbers 6, 23, 27, 40 and 41, plus Lucky Stars 2 and 12. There were also more than 3 million other prizes paid out, including more than 1 million in the UK, on a memorable night. Find out more on the EuroMillions Results page, including the Millionaire Maker result.
New EuroMillions Record
It was set up to be the biggest draw in EuroMillions history, after the jackpot reached its maximum amount of €230 million on Friday 8th July.
It is the highest amount the game has ever seen, with the limit on the top prize allowed to increase by €10 million each time it gets to the maximum. The jackpot cap had previously been boosted to €230 million last October after a €220 million win in France.
Joe and Jess Thwaite became the UK’s biggest winners in May when they landed a jackpot of £184 million. The top prize at the time was worth €215 million, so it was just short of its limit.
But the latest winner has eclipsed both the Thwaites and the €220 million player from France, becoming EuroMillions’ biggest-ever winner. The next step is for them to receive their money, and it was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that a claim had already been made.
They do not have to go public like the Thwaites did – there is also the option to stay anonymous.
Use the EuroMillions Checker to find out if your ticket was a winner. Even if you missed out on the jackpot on this occasion, you can quickly discover if you matched enough numbers to win a prize.
22 Millionaires on Friday
The EuroMillions jackpot will now reset to £14 million for the next draw, while the jackpot cap will be raised to €240 million.
A special Millionaire Maker draw will also be held on Friday. There will be 22 prizes of £1 million up for grabs instead of the usual one.
The Millionaire Maker raffle guarantees that one player in the UK will always win £1 million, as it randomly selects one of the nine-digit codes that have been generated on players’ tickets. From time to time, though, there are enhanced Millionaire Maker draws when multiple participants win. Friday’s raffle will feature more £1 million prizes than have been offered in any other draw this year.
With draws continuing every Tuesday and Friday evening, there are sure to be more huge wins in the second half of the year.
The latest record win came on the back of a Superdraw on 17th June, when the top prize was boosted to €130 million.
