Lotto Jackpot Bigger Than EuroMillions This Weekend

Updated: Friday 26th July 2019

Lotto has an estimated eight-figure jackpot worth £17.2 million to play for this Saturday, surpassing the £14 million up for grabs in tonight’s EuroMillions draw. The lotteries are two of the favourites amongst UK players, but which should you enter this weekend?

Better Odds of Winning in Lotto

Out of the two lotteries, EuroMillions has traditionally been the game with the bigger prizes. Played in nine European countries, the record jackpot has been reached on three separate occasions, when the jackpot cap worth €190 million (£166 million) has been triggered.

In comparison, Lotto’s biggest jackpot worth £66 million was evenly split between two winning tickets in January 2016, belonging to Hawick’s David and Carol Martin and an anonymous player from Worcester. The lottery’s largest top prize won by a single ticket holder was £35.1 million on 6th April 2016.

However, although the size of jackpots have generally been in EuroMillions’ favour in previous draws, the odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 139,838,160, compared to much more favourable odds of 1 in 45,057,474 for Lotto.

This weekend’s Lotto jackpot is worth an estimated £3.2 million more than its EuroMillions counterpart, and with better odds of landing the top prize, it presents a great opportunity for Lotto ticket holders to win an eight-figure sum.

How the Jackpots Have Reached a Combined £31.2 Million

The Lotto jackpot has rolled over for the past seven draws to reach its current figure. It hasn’t been won since Saturday 26th May when two ticket holders shared a £9.2 million jackpot on Bank Holiday weekend. You could became the game’s first jackpot winner of the month if you match all six main numbers this weekend.

The EuroMillions jackpot, in contrast, was won as recently as Tuesday 19th June by a ticket holder in France who scooped £31 million. The jackpot is automatically reset to £14 million after it has been won, hence the eight-figure prize available in tonight’s draw.

There are also supplementary draws held for both lotteries, with the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker producing two guaranteed millionaires in every draw compared to the one prize of £1 million in each Lotto Millionaire Raffle.

Lotto Winner from Hull Claims £1 Million Prize

A lucky Lotto player who bagged £1 million in the draw on 24th March 2018 has finally come forward to claim their winnings. The East Yorkshire-based ticket holder won their prize in the supplementary Lotto Millionaire Raffle, matching the winning code GOLD 1726 7851.

Lotto players have 180 days from the date of a draw to begin the claim process with lottery officials, and the millionaire winner from Hull has done so with three months to spare before the 20th September deadline. Their identity is yet to be revealed.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery said: “We’re delighted that the winner of this amazing prize has now come forward and we hope that they will enjoy their win.

“It would have been awful if the ticket-holder had missed out on this substantial and life-changing amount of money. We would like to remind all National Lottery players to check their tickets every time they play.”
