One UK EuroMillions Player Has Won Nearly £115 Million

A lucky ticket holder from the UK is the sole winner of a £115 million jackpot from the New Year’s Day EuroMillions draw. The wait is now on for the winner to come forward and claim the huge nine-figure jackpot, one of the biggest ever seen in the UK.

New Year’s Day EuroMillions Results

The enormous jackpot accumulated after 12 draws went by without a winner, a run of rollovers that stretched back to mid-November. The latest draw on 1st January put an end to that run, as one UK ticket matched all of the winning numbers 1, 8, 11, 25, 28 and Lucky Stars 4 and 6 to win £114,969,775.

Andy Carter, Senior Winner Advisor at the National Lottery, said: “What a start to 2019 for UK EuroMillions players. All players are urged to check their tickets to see if they are a big winner and can turn 2019 into one long celebration.”

Ten other players in the UK also became millionaires in a special New Year’s edition of the Millionaire Maker raffle. Ten winning codes were drawn in the supplementary game, and each player that matched one of the codes on their ticket won £1 million. In standard draws, two winning codes are drawn, but Camelot recently announced that this would drop to one from 15th January. In return, players are promised bigger prizes and more special events like the New Year’s Millionaire Maker raffle.

Lucky Run Continues for UK Players

This latest jackpot win is the fourth-biggest ever seen in the UK and continues the lucky streak enjoyed by players from the country over the last 12 months.

An anonymous player won £121 million in the draw on 24th April 2018 - the third-biggest jackpot won in the UK - a couple of months before Fred and Lesley Higgins almost missed out on £57 million after their winning ticket was torn up and thrown in the bin. They were able to claim their prize in the end, but only after Camelot conducted rigorous security checks to validate the damaged ticket.

A builder from Boston also nearly lost out on a multi-million pound jackpot after leaving his ticket in his van for six weeks. Andrew Clark won £76 million in the EuroMillions draw on 2nd November but left the winning ticket tucked into a visor in his van. It was only after he was urged to check his stash of tickets by his family that the winning one was discovered.

Like the ticket holders above, the latest winner has 180 days from the date of the winning draw - so until the end of June - to claim their prize. When they do, they can decide whether to remain anonymous or disclose their identity to the public.
