Set For Life To Introduce Super Chance Draws

Updated: Tuesday 21st May 2019

The National Lottery has announced a change to the game rules for Set For Life, paving the way for ‘Super Chance’ draws to take place from time to time. These special draws will give you the chance to win the top prize without having to match the full set of numbers. The first Super Chance draw will be on Thursday 23rd May. Find out more about how they will work.

Set For Life launched in March as the UK’s first annuity lottery, providing winners in the top two tiers with a guaranteed income over a fixed period of time, rather than the traditional one-off jackpots that are found in other games such as Lotto and EuroMillions.

The top prize is worth £10,000 a month for 30 years, and in a standard draw you have to match all five main numbers and the Life Ball to win. If you match all five main numbers without the Life Ball, you win £10,000 a month for one year.

However, Super Chance draws will increase your odds of winning the top prize. Even if you win in the Match 5 category and don’t get the Life Ball correct in a Super Chance draw, you will still receive £10,000 a month for 30 years.

Guaranteed Winner

If no tickets win in either of the top two tiers, there will be another Super Chance draw in the following draw. Super Chance draws will continue to be held until there is at least one player in either of the top two prize tiers.

The top prize is subject to capping in Super Chance draws, with a limit of £18 million available to pay out to winners. If this is not sufficient to reward everyone in both the Match 5 and Match 5 + 1 categories the full prize, the money will be split and shared between winning players. In this situation, the players would have the option to choose between an annuity and a lump sum.

The odds of winning the top prize in a Super Chance draw are 1 in 1,533,939, in comparison to 1 in 15,339,390 in normal draws.

There has not yet been a winner of the top prize since Set For Life began a couple of months ago, but many players have won the second prize of £10,000 a month for one year.

The change to the rules to allow Super Chance draws was only announced on Friday 17th May, with the first special draw of its kind scheduled less than a week later.
