Set For Life Winners Enjoy Strange Celebrations
A couple from Upminster are looking forward to celebrating with friends and family when restrictions are lifted, after experiencing a ‘crazy’ time in lockdown since they discovered they had won on Set For Life.
Rich Pearson and his wife Kim matched the five main numbers in the draw on Monday 11th May, winning the second prize of £10,000 a month for a year.
They found out they had won when Kim checked her online account. Husband Rich - a key worker in the infrastructure sector – was asleep at the time, but that didn’t stop Kim from excitedly shouting ‘we’ve won the lottery’.
Rich said: “I’d been working a night shift so was in the deepest sleep when Kim jumped on me. I had no idea what she was on about to begin with but it quickly sunk in when she showed me her phone and how much we’d won. It was certainly one of the more surreal starts to the day.”
After calling the National Lottery to confirm the win, the happy couple began thinking about what they would do with the money – which will add up to £120,000 by the time they have received their final payment.
Top of the shopping list is a new home with a garden for their rescue dog Loki, while they are also planning to go on holiday when the lockdown is over. However, the best bit will be enjoying the money with loved ones, after having to stay away from them immediately after the win.
“It was a really strange day, it was such a crazy experience that we spent most of the day just grinning at one another,” said Kim. “Then Rich went off to work so I had a glass of wine and celebrated with Loki.
“This is a strange time to win because we haven’t been able to celebrate with those closest to us but when we safely can, that celebration will be all the sweeter.
“We will definitely be treating everyone, and we may think about a holiday to see family in New Zealand but all that is some way off.
“So for now, we will keep ourselves safe, keep Loki entertained and out of mischief, and crack on with our house hunt.”
The Set For Life jackpot is £10,000 a month for 30 years. To win this top prize, you also have to match the Life Ball as well as the five main numbers. Draws take place every Monday and Thursday night.
