Bradford Single Mum Claims £14.5 Million EuroMillions Jackpot
Updated: Wednesday 22nd February 2017
A Bradford mum has been revealed as the winner of Friday 17th February’s £14.5 million EuroMillions jackpot. Beverley Doran picked up her oversized cheque at a press conference today after matching the numbers 19, 25, 33, 36 and 48 with Lucky Stars 2 and 9 last weekend.
The 37-year-old, who lives in the Shipley area of the West Yorkshire city, will use the cash to move her and her four children, aged between five and 17, out of their council house and into a mansion within driving distance of their current schools. Beverley told reporters that two of her children are autistic and another is being diagnosed with Asperger's, resulting in her giving up work as a receptionist two years ago to look after them.
She revealed that she discovered her good fortune when checking her phone in bed on Saturday morning. "I could see the jackpot amount but couldn’t work out what I’d won,” she said, talking about the moment she logged into her lottery account, “then I slowly realised it was one UK winner and that that person was me. It was taking a very long time to sink in.”
The first person she told about the win was her eldest son, waking him from his slumber by shouting “I’ve won the Euros! I’m a millionaire!” Over the weekend, she began searching for houses online, splashed the cash on a shopping trip and booked into a plush hotel to celebrate.
Beverley was not the only lottery winner popping the champagne cork today, as Tyne and Wear friends Paula Barraclough and Lorraine Smith, known as Polly and Lolly, picked up a £15.3 million Lotto jackpot prize from Saturday night.
EuroMillions returns on Friday night, with a jackpot worth £24 million. You can choose your numbers online for a chance of scooping that life-changing sum. Good luck!
