How To Confirm and Claim a Big Lottery Win
Updated: Thursday 5th April 2018
Every player dreams about checking their ticket and finding out that they have matched all the numbers drawn or the winning raffle code. But what do you do after that moment of sheer joy to make sure that you get your hands on the money?
Check Numbers
Of course, if you buy a ticket from a retailer, the first step to claiming a prize is to check your numbers. There are various ways to do this, so you might decide to use the Lottery.co.uk Checker or take a look at the relevant Results page to see if you are due a prize.
An alternative is to have your ticket checked in a shop, and one man from Portsmouth has described the scene of celebration he sparked after finding out from a retailer that he had won £1 million in the Millionaire Maker last month.
Jason Jagodzinsk, 38, said in The Portsmouth News: “I was completely stunned, and then I had a little jump around to celebrate All the other shoppers in the shop were cheering for me and slapping me on the back, it was an amazing moment.”
Claim The Prize
If Jason had won a smaller prize, he would have been paid out instantly, but there is a bit more to the claims process when you scoop a larger amount. Jason called the National Lottery directly to confirm his win, but not before he had gone into work and shared the news with his colleagues.
He recalled: “The snow was coming down pretty heavy so the boss decided we’d close early but nobody wanted to leave until I’d had the call back from Camelot to confirm the win.
“We were all in the office and it was silent as I spoke to the lady from Camelot. When she said ‘I can confirm you are a millionaire’ I gave a thumbs up and everyone cheered, and I don’t mind saying I had tears in my eyes.”
Go to the page on Claiming Prizes to find the contact number you need if you win an award of more than £50,000. The next stage is to complete a claim form and present a valid form of identification at an arranged meeting, and you can then agree on a location to receive the prize.
Choose Numbers Online
It is a similar process for large online prizes, but you will be automatically notified of any win and smaller amounts will be paid directly into your online account.
Whether you want to play via a retailer or enter online, you can take part in Friday’s EuroMilions draw for your chance to win the £45 million jackpot. Best of luck!
