Lotto £15M Must Be Won Draw to Take Place on 27th June
A special Must Be Won Lotto draw, in which £15 million is guaranteed to be given away, is set to take place on Saturday 27th June. It’s the first such special draw to take place so far this year.
What are Must Be Won draws?
Must Be Won draws have become a familiar concept to Lotto players since they were introduced in November 2018, as they occur every time the jackpot rolls over for five consecutive draws. In the sixth draw - the Must Be Won draw - the jackpot prize money has to be given away.
The National Lottery also holds special Must Be Won draws, in which the prize fund is boosted to a big amount without a series of rollovers taking place. That’s exactly what’s planned for 27th June; an extra £15 million will be added to the prize money and it must be won on the night.
The most recent Must Be Won draw took place on 29th April 2020, after the jackpot went the full five draws without being won. The last time a special Must Be Won draw took place, however, was on 25th December 2019; £15 million was added to the prize fund on that occasion, too, to celebrate the festive period.
How is the prize money guaranteed to be won?
In any standard Lotto draw you must match all six numbers to win the jackpot. If no one manages to do that the jackpot rolls over and increases in value for the next draw. Must Be Won draws are the same in one respect, in that you must match all six numbers to win the jackpot. But if that doesn’t happen, the prize money will be shared between all other winners, in what’s known as a ‘rolldown.’
The last seven Must Be Won draws have ended in rolldowns, resulting in big boosts to prizes for a lot of players. In the Christmas Must Be Won draw, for example, 67 players who matched five numbers saw their prize increase from £1,750 to £15,630. In the same draw, winners who matched just three numbers received £116 instead of the usual £30.
So there’s no better time to play Lotto than when a Must Be Won draw takes place, as even if the jackpot isn’t won there is guaranteed to be a lot of prize money given away on the night. As always, you can purchase your entries in stores or online.
