Lotto Player Goes Public With ‘Mad’ £7.5 Million Win

Lotto Player Goes Public With ‘Mad’ £7.5 Million Win

The winner of the £7.5 million Lotto jackpot from 4th January has been revealed as James Clarkson, a 20-year-old from Carlisle who is keen to carry on working despite his newfound wealth.

Clarkson’s winning story actually started a couple of weeks earlier when he bought a ticket for the special Christmas Day draw and pocketed £120. He decided to put some of the money towards playing in a future draw, and was astonished to discover that this time he had won a multimillion-pound jackpot.

Recalling the moment when he found out about his windfall, he said he was at his girlfriend’s house and got up early in the morning to check the snowfall. He saw a message saying he had won and immediately woke up his girlfriend to tell her. Her reply was ‘No, you haven’t’, she then rolled over and went back to sleep.

After his win was later confirmed by the National Lottery, Clarkson said his initial reaction was one of disbelief. He said: “I think I just started laughing. I thought, ‘This is mad!’”

The young winner spent the rest of the day celebrating with friends and family and was happy to go public rather than stay anonymous. He has already booked a luxury holiday to Cape Verde and bought a few designer items such as a Gucci bag for his girlfriend and two new jackets for himself.

Clarkson is looking forward to enjoying the rest of his winnings too, but he fully intends to carry on working as he wants the money to be there to help him and his family for as long as possible.

“We are close, and they have always been there for me," he said. "This win isn't just for me. I want to make sure we all benefit.

“I was out in the cold fixing blocked drains the day after I found out I had won. I'm not going to stop working. I want to qualify as a heating engineer and then go from there.”

Lotto gives you a far better chance of winning the jackpot than EuroMillions. In fact, there have already been three jackpot wins since the start of the year. The ‘rolldown’ feature also boosts non-jackpot prizes when nobody matches all the numbers in special Must Be Won draws.

Lotto draws take place on Wednesday and Saturday nights, and you can give yourself a chance to become the next big winner right now.
