Lucky UK EuroMillions Winner Scoops £170 Million
Updated: Friday 15th November 2019
A winning EuroMillions ticket, sold in the UK, has won a colossal £170 million jackpot in the draw on Tuesday 8th October. It is the largest prize that can be won in the game and the win brings an end to a run of 22 rollovers.
The winning numbers for Friday’s draw were 7, 10, 15, 44 and 49, with Lucky Stars 3 and 12. Go to the EuroMillions Results page to find out more information about the draw, including a full prize breakdown.
A single participant was lucky enough to match all the numbers, snapping up the biggest jackpot seen on EuroMillions since a Spanish player won €190 million (£170 million) in October 2017. There have been more than 400 winners of the top prize since EuroMillions began in 2004. The latest success is the biggest jackpot to have ever been won by a UK player.
The jackpot was capped at €190 million since the draw on Tuesday 24th September. The extra funds that would usually go to the top prize were instead split between players matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star, leading to far bigger payouts than normal.
The draw on Tuesday was a ‘Must Be Won’ draw as it was the fifth consecutive one at the jackpot cap. EuroMillions rules state that all of the prize money must be given away at that point, even if no one matches all five numbers and both Lucky Stars.
Jackpot Claimed Two Days Later
The jackpot winner had 180 days to claim their money, but they have wasted little time in coming forward and it was confirmed on Thursday that the wait for the lucky player to make contact was already over.
The National Lottery tweeted: "BREAKING NEWS: Tuesday's amazing £170M EuroMillions prize has now been claimed. Congratulations to the winner of the UK's biggest ever jackpot!"
The claim will now have to be validated, before it is revealed whether the winner goes public or stays anonymous. Either way, they can start to dream about the houses, cars or private planes they might wish to buy with their newfound wealth.
Millions of pounds go unclaimed in prizes every year, when players fail to come forward before the 180-day deadline. If you bought your ticket from a retailer, you will need to check the results of the draw to see if you are a winner; you are not notified the same way you would be if you played online. Even if you haven’t picked up one of the top prizes, you might find that you have enjoyed a big win.
One quick and easy way to check your numbers is to use the free Lottery Results App. The new app features a built-in QR scanner which allows you to check your ticket in an instant. You don’t even have to wait until the prize amounts are confirmed to see if you are a winner.
Whether you were lucky or unlucky on Tuesday, there will be another chance to win in Friday’s draw. You can buy tickets from an authorised retailer, or you can take part online. You might just become the next big winner!
