One Spanish lottery ticket won the EuroMillions jackpot last Friday night, giving the lucky owner a jaw-dropping prize of €190 million. That equates to £170.8 million at current exchange rates, making it the biggest jackpot – at least in sterling terms – since the EuroMillions game began in 2004.

The EuroMillions results on Friday 6 October were 01, 09, 15, 19 and 25, along with the Lucky Star numbers 01 and 07. With all seven of the numbers drawn falling within the ever-popular ‘birthday numbers’ range of 01 to 31, it was perhaps surprising that only one ticket succeeded in matching them, but that scenario will no doubt have delighted the sole winning player in Spain.

There were 16 tickets which matched all five main numbers as well as one of the Lucky Stars to land a second-tier prize of £900,571 each, and four of those had been purchased right here in the UK. Another 22 tickets won £19,468 each by matching five main numbers only, and more than 5.17 million tickets won smaller prizes across the lower levels. In addition, two UK players won £1 million each by matching one of the Millionaire Maker codes, which were THVG82566 and TLZM98884.

This latest jackpot win is the fourth that Spain has landed since the EuroMillions rules were revised in September 2016, and the 83rd since the game began. Only France has fared better overall, with 87 jackpot wins, but France, the UK and Portugal have each had a tad more success since September 2016, with six, five and five wins, respectively.
