UK Player Claims £46.2 Million Share of EuroMillions Jackpot
A UK player who won £46.2 million in Friday night’s EuroMillions draw has wasted no time in staking a claim for the prize.
It is the first jackpot to be won in the UK this year, although the lucky ticket holder will have to share the money with two other European players once the claim has been verified, as there were three winning entries in total across the continent, each landing a slice of a prize worth £138 million.
There were also 875,363 other UK players who picked up prizes on Friday 5th May, ranging from £2.70 for matching two numbers to £18,651 for matching five. Go to the EuroMillions Results page to see the winning numbers, plus the Millionaire Maker code, and a breakdown of all the prizes won.
UK players have 180 days to collect EuroMillions prizes, but the latest winner has come forward within 48 hours of the draw taking place.
Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Advisor, said: “This is absolutely incredible news and we're delighted that we've received a claim.
“Our focus is now on supporting the ticket holder through the process and helping them start to enjoy their truly life-changing win.”
The next step is for the National Lottery to validate the claim and pay the money. The winner will then have to decide whether to go public with their story or stay anonymous.
Most big winners stay private, including the biggest of the lot - someone who won £195 million in July last year - but occasionally players are happy to step into the spotlight.
Joe and Jess Thwaite, from Gloucester, were happy to accept publicity after landing £184 million in May 2022, saying that they did not want the pressure of keeping such a big win secret.
Whether you would go public or not, it is a decision you only face if you are lucky enough to become a big winner. You can give yourself a chance by picking up a EuroMillions ticket from your nearest lottery retailer or playing online.
