How to Play
To play the Wales Lottery, you need to complete an application form and register with your name and address. You must be at least 16 years of age to take part, and you can purchase entries via debit/credit card or by cheque.
The game costs £1 per entry and you can choose how many entries you wish to purchase, from a minimum of one to a maximum of 20. A unique six-digit number is allocated to each entry at random, so if you purchase 15 entries you receive 15 different 6-digit numbers. You keep the same numbers for as long as you play, unless you request to change them.
The game works as a subscription-based lottery, so you will continue to play every Friday until you cancel. Your game numbers will be entered automatically each week as long as you have funds in your account. There is a minimum payment of £13 and you will be notified when your credit gets low.
A winning six-digit number will be announced on Friday and prizes are based on how many digits you match in the correct position.
Prize and Odds of Winning
There are four different ways to win prizes in the Wales Lottery. You can win the jackpot of £25,000 if you match the winning six-digit number exactly, but you can win other prizes by matching just three numbers in the correct place. If your game number is 123456, for example, you would win a prize if the winning number is 993496 because you match three numbers exactly (**34*6).
The following table shows the prizes you can win and the odds of winning in each tier:
Numbers Matched | Prize | Odds |
---|---|---|
6 | £25,000 | 1 in 1,000,000 |
5 | £1,000 | 1 in 18,518 |
4 | £25 | 1 in 823 |
3 | 5 free entries for the next draw | 1 in 69 |
Good Causes
As a society lottery, the Wales Lottery is designed to run on a not-for-profit basis. It was established in 2017 to help local communities throughout Wales, and is now operated by Sterling Lotteries in conjunction with Charities Trust. A minimum of 20% of all proceeds goes to charitable causes, and the beneficiaries change over time to help as many different projects as possible. The organisations to receive financial support when Sterling Lotteries took over in the summer of 2018 included children’s cancer charity LATCH, North Clwyd Animal Rescue, the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales and ‘Welsh Hearts’ group Calonnau Cymru.
